Curated by Gladys Garrote protesting from a poetic voice, expressing the complaints with the veil of linguistic acrobatics, and rhetorical resources is a way to split reality. The collection of visual poems exhibited under the title Poesía de Protesta (Protest Poetry) gathers the voices of ten Latin American female poets in collaboration with visual artists with diverse backgrounds. These poems argue against the present’s prevailing ideologies and address issues such as gender violence, exile, economic marginalization, fragmented identities, and erotic otherness.
The anthology Poesía de Protesta creates an anti-hegemonic body in itself; tissued by female Latin American voices, it opens up a space to the Spanish language as an action against the supremacy of English in the mainstream of contemporary art.
