Human after all. A collective of creatives moves past the paradigm of defined terminology into a transhumanist manifesto. We are the new undefined state of gender, one that presents fluid utopic dynamics in shaping oneness. What if we, as a culture, moved past traditional gender roles into new states of identity? What would we call it?
As technology and art pave the way for our identities which thrive in safe spaces beyond our physical bodies into celestial realms of avatar gender bending sources. We are anything we wish to be. The exhibition explores what it means for us as a collective of progressive individuals to develop a new language to overcome the paradigms of archaic gendered narratives.
Postgenderism, as a cultural phenomenon, originates from feminism, masculism, and movements such as androgyny, metrosexuality, and transgenderism. However, it is the integration of transhumanist philosophy that has allowed postgenderists to imagine significant morphological changes in humans and new ways of reproduction in a postgender society. In this regard, postgenderism is a branch of transhumanism, posthumanism, and futurism.
As we navigate through an era of rapid technological advancements, postgenderism offers a lens through which we can examine the potential for greater personal freedom and societal evolution. This philosophy envisions a future where individuals are liberated from the rigid confines of traditional gender roles, allowing for a more authentic and multifaceted expression of identity. In such a society, the focus shifts from predefined gender categories to a celebration of individuality and the diverse ways in which people experience and express their humanity.
By transcending binary notions of gender, we open up possibilities for new forms of relationships, communities, and societal norms that are more inclusive and equitable. This shift not only has the potential to dismantle deeply ingrained prejudices and stereotypes but also encourages a more empathetic and interconnected world. The artworks in Postgender serve as a powerful testament to this transformative vision, inviting viewers to envision a future where the essence of being human is defined not by gender, but by our shared experiences and collective intelligence.
The exhibition invites local and global audiences alike to engage with their practices through a physical exhibition at Vellum LA Gallery on Melrose (LA, CA) and digitally through the NFT Biennial Metaverse.
